Rumors have surfaced that Apple maybe building a hybrid "world phone" that Verizon wireless could use.

Currently, Apple has a contract with AT&T to be the exclusive carrier for the iPhone -- but -- it is set to expire next year in 2010. A lot of verizon customers stated that they would purchase an iPhone without hestiation if they weren't locked into their contracts with Verizon.

Verizon reiterated that it would cut a deal with Apple if it wasn't for those 2 barriers 1) The exclusive contract with AT&T and 2) That the iPhone currently doesn't support Verizon's CDMA 2000 wireless technology (Apple's iPhone uses the W-CDMA (UTMS)). However, if the plans are in the works it will very soon change and Apple will use Qualcomm's new hybrid chip for its iphone.

We could see the new iPhone available through Verzion as soon as Summer 2010.
